While stationed in West Germany during the Cold War - just to mess with the East Germans and Soviets - we constructed a "camera" out of large cardboard box using the removed dryer front window as the lens, a "telescope" with 3 fitted smaller to larger size PVP pipe (saran wrap lens) and even a 'Listening Device" made from the two parallel spray painted traffic cones that we would use with a plugged in chest-set over our ears.
The MI had a field day that week listening to their radio traffic. They located 20+ previously unknown East German Border Observation Locations from their radio traffic as we moved along the border trace.
