Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on April 15, 1947 Jackie Robinson became the first African-American in the major leagues when he played his first game with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
It seems shocking to modern eyes and ears but in the 1940s prejudice was alive and festering in this nation.
As second baseman, Jackie Robinson was named Rookie of the Year that year, National League MVP in 1949 and a World Series champ in 1955. He ended his major league career in 1957.
