TSgt Joe C. thanks again brother: James Beckwourth, one of only a handful of early mountain men to emerge from the system of slavery, is born in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Good read/share.

It is said that Beckwourth named the city of Pueblo, Colorado which sits on the Arkansas River (at that time, the international border of U.S. & Mexican territory). Upon arriving at the collection of adobe buildings including a small trading fort, Beckwourth supposedly commented "this place looks like a pueblo" (dwellings of Pueblo Indian Tribes of Northern New Mexico). Pueblo, Colorado is now known as "Home of Heroes" as four young men raised in that city were awarded Medals of Honor.

Thanks TSgt Joe C. I dont recall reading about Mr. Beckwourth before. And that led me to read about the Sand Creek Massacre.
