I had been in-country (Yokota AB) for two years when he ascended to the throne. Can't believe that was already 30 years ago! It was interesting learning about how the Japanese citizens felt about Emperor Hirohito (Emperor Shōwa). Stayed in Japan for a total of 6 years. Absolutely loved the people and the culture.
