He should have left her. As a health care provider I became privy to “games soldiers played”. I had patients, usually female, who had married to soldiers for benefits and he had married to get off post housing and BAQ. She shopped commissary and PX, and got health care, her husband wanted off post. My advice was get a lawyer and get out of it. Another case was a married soldier got stationed at the post I was at. He was involved in being pursued by police in a high speed chase and wrecked his car. He signed forms to get his “ wife” AER and Red Cross funds. I was sitting at the Nurses station when a call come through ( long before cell phones) of a women claiming to be his wife. I said, “sorry mam his wife just received Red Cross assistance and put in for AER”. The women on the phone was his wife. She was selling her business to join him. I took the patient phone to the banged up guy and connected her. A little bit later his call light came on. He started to jump into me and said “ don’t ever..,”. I said “ back it up buddy, it is “ don’t you ever SIR.” I would be more worried about your car wreck and filling false paper work for Red Cross etc. than little old LT me, have a good day”. He was discharged to police custody. Don’t know the final out come. I can not imagine the crazy stuff 1st SGTs and company commanders had to deal with.

No excuses...life sentence for this.
