Sgt Trevor Barrett I think they are on to something I already knew back in 1980 when I started going back to college (Junior College) then a four-year University (Illinois State University) in Normal, Illinois and that is find veterans to connect with. I immediately sought out and found veterans at the Junior college level and we teamed up right away and then when I went to ISU I found a group called Chi Gamma Iota Veteran's fraternity Group on Campus and immediately felt at home and this is while I was attending OCS in the National Guard at the same time. It made my college experience that much better. If Universities and College want more that just Veteran friendly status they need to bring these type of organizations to their campus in my opinion. I'm sure there are other veteran friendly groups on campuses around the country. That is my 2 cents Trevor!

COL Mikel Burroughs thank you for your comment. I too found myself looking for fellow veterans while working on my BS at St John Fisher College (SJFC). There were times that I felt a bit out of place in the classroom. After my first semester I asked our veteran rep. if there was a vet club on campus, and there was not. After finding out that there used to be a club but, it fell apart after the last president graduated; I decided to go through the process of activating the club again. It was a great learning experience and I met some amazing vets within the SJFC community! I think that it was during that period of time that I realized that I would like to work with vets within higher education.

Sgt Trevor Barrett - That is awesome and thank you for what you do Trevor. Sounds like you created your own path for veteran community within that college. There weren't too many members when I arrived at ISU, so I started a recruiting drive as well and we grew stronger on campus.
