Jordan is stating this strike is in retaliation for the death of Moaz al-Kassasbeh (Jordanian pilot who was burned alive in a cage). The fact that the strike is two years after for retribution and saying, "Jordanian Air Force planes, in memory of our martyrs who have fallen in our war against terrorism, on Friday evening targeted various positions of the terrorist gang Daesh in southern Syria," seems to be aimed at the sympathies of the civilian population and directs their attention away from the fact that, the strikes came as an alliance of US-backed fighters began a new phase of fighting the ISIL-held city of Raqqa.
