SGT Damaso V Santana - last time I checked, if you were near a drug, a weapon, stolen property, it was yours, and in your possession. You did not notify anyone, did nothing to get away from the material, and you did nothing to get those responsible to to the police, making it yours and your problem. How in the hell is this not the perfect slam dunk? Did you: 1. Have weapons? Yes
2. Take property that isn't yours? yes
3. Occupy federal property that wasn't yours? yes
4. Defy police orders to leave? yes
5. On multiple occasions refuse police orders? yes
6. Present a weapon on law enforcement? yes, but that dumbass is pushing daisies.

SGT Damaso V Santana - As to the actual story that you posted, I suspect the reason that they were aquitted was because, 1. the jury was sympathetic over the land use issues that spurred the occupation in the first place. 2. because there were as many or more FBI informers present than there were ranchers/protesters/bandits/thugs depending on your point of view.
