Are you calling my beloved Kate Smith the "fat lady"? Them there's fightin words in Philly! Actually, I have heard that analogy was attributed to someone commenting about Kate Smith, but I can't be too sure about it. Most likely it's used to denote the "fat lady" of olden times finishing up at the Opera by singing the aria.
