Capt Richard I P. Great post, I enjoyed looking into 60 mm mortar rounds.

The pineapple grenade, Mk 2, 1918 into the 1960s weighed 1.1 lbs contained 2.2 ounces of TNT.

The M 49, HE, 60 mm mortar round weighed 2.73 lbs and contained .34 lbs of flaked TNT, (5.4 ounces?).

A Soldier would need some adrenalin pumping to throw a 60 mm mortar round beyond the Effective Casualty Range of 35 meters.

Had never heard that one before. Would hate to be the one to try and prove or disprove the theory. Evidently it worked to some extent for him. My understanding is a 60mm is not much different than a grenade in explosive capacity.
