Kentucky Colonels are real and they have nothing to do with chicken

MSgt Danny Hope, I've been a Kentucky Colonel since April 27, 1981. At the time of my appointment, I was a first lieutenant in the USAR!
John Y. Brown was governor at the time. He was married to former Miss America and television personality, Phyllis George. Interestingly enough, my certificate was signed by Martha Layne Collins, the Lieutenant Governor, as Acting Governor. I never knew why. She succeeded Brown as Governor of Kentucky, and to date, is the only woman to have been elected Governor of Kentucky.

My Grandma McIntosh was made one by then Gov (later Sen) Wendell Ford. She worked over 30 years at a Defense Clothing Plant in Graves County.

One of our former post CSMs was recognized by the state of Kentucky as a Kentucky Colonel.
