If we remove the human aspect from war, then it will simply devolve into a never-ending game.

Two thoughts come to mind:
1) As a kid I read a short story (cannot for the life of me remember the title). Earth and an alien species were at war. The war was endless (over a thousand years) because it was fought in space, between the two different worlds, by robots, in space. The net result was that both planets were living extremely Spartan existences because every economic resources was being pumped into a growing junkyard of war debris between the planets. Seems no one could develop a superior algorithm to overcome the other. Then some genius decided to put men in the cockpits of the weapons, since they did not operate by algorithm. EARTH WINS!!! yay...

2) "It is well that war is so terrible — lest we should grow too fond of it." (Attributed to Robert E. Lee)

I disagree, watch the Terminator movies, the first two of the original series. Machines have no conscience, compassion, and show no mercy. They can be programmed or hacked and turned loose on anyone.

Well, I suppose if we accept a Hollywood production as a scientific demonstration it's true. However, just for clarity, keep in mind that robots are programmed, but those that are fully autonomous can't be "hacked". The point of the Terminator movies was to demonstrate that artificial intelligence may "reprogram" itself with unintended consequences. Thus, the real lesson to be learned has already been immortalized in the old saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"

CPT Jack Durish - I highly doubt robots that going to be programmed with asimov's three laws of robotics. What they want are autonomous killing machines and anything electronic can be hacked.
