As an driver of 68 & 69 GTOs what they call muscle cars today are that in name only. But I think this type of car will be around well into the future. Electric cars in Norway and most of Europe make sense. But in America the biggest challenge to electric cars is distance. Sure they're great for commuting to work in urban areas but planing the family trip across the country (which lots of Americans do) is just about impossible. Electric cars just don't have the range and when you roll into some strange town where do you find a place to charge the batteries? 400 miles then having to stop for a 2-3 hour recharge turns a short 2 day 1500 mile trip into a marathon. Perhaps someday electric cars will have greater range and the infrastructure will have numerous recharging stations, but that's a terribly long ways off.

This car weighs about 3600 pounds. It is lighter than the new Challenger

That surprises me. Guess I bought into the PR that today's cars are lighter to get better fuel economy. Thanks for making me wiser.

Year/Model '68 GTO
Race Weight With Driver 4,040 lbs
Curb Weight 3,840 lbs
Fuel Level When Weighed ¾-tank
A Dodge Challenger with a V6 weighs 3840 lb and with a V8 about 4,200 pounds. So the new Dodge Challenger is actually heavier than your GTO when configured in a V8 trim with a minimum 360 horsepower and its maximum of 707 horsepower does a Hellcat and 820 horsepower as a Dodge Demon. This is insane!

When I mean minimum horsepower I mean with a basic V8. The V6 is 305 horsepower.
