I still have one letter I wrote home to my Mother from Vietnam. There wasn't much combat action going on fortunately. Mostly I bitched about having to carry 80-100 lbs of gear strapped to a WW 2 M-1941 haversack. I guess I was focused on my immediate problems.
Another note. I recall on Barry Sadler's "Ballad of the Green Berets" album over half the songs are about loneliness and thinking of home. Really simple songs, but relatable to deployment.

These are always somber reading. I actually came in when we still wrote letter from basic. I still have the letters my brothers and sisters wrote. We were lucky as we always came home. Solid share SFC (Join to see) we should all be thankful we are here to read these and say a prayer for those who wrote them
