PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I also. I was active in the Civil rights movement of the early 60's, helping folks register to vote. Went from the comfort of the west coast to Mississippi. What an awakening!
Now I am happily married (45+ years) to a lady of color. And yet even today, here in the 21st Century, in the "Land of the Free" I still see racism. More subtle that 1963, but there just the same.
Sad.

His is pure BS. Monkeying something is not a racial slur. The way DeSantis used the phrase It is a reference to the economy of Florida. Growing up phrases such as “don’t throw a monkey wrench in it”, “ don’t monkey it up”, etc have nothing to do with race. When you have nothing else turn it into a race issue.

It never ceases to amaze me when this kind of stuff is defended. It's been used as a racial slur for as long as I can remember. It's one thing if you say it to a white person, but entirely different when you say it in referring to an action by a black person. There are other terms we can't refer to other races with either. We have to be a little more aware of what they are and their history if we are going to stop acting like clueless white people. When DeSantis realized how it was taken, if he didn't mean it, he would have said so and apologized on the spot (he didn't).

LTC David Brown - I listened to him too. Sorry, in this one denial just won't cut it. He may well have not intended to. I believe that's possible. But when you make a mistake and realize how it's taken, you apologize and say so. Right then. I have said things unintentionally too, but when they are unintentional, you realize and do better. But apology first.

A whole lot of "racism" is just made up. "Racist" is a favorite left-wing term when they're really trying to find something bad to say about someone.
