Lawsuit filed over Bible display at New Hampshire VA hospital; uproar ensues

MY COMMENT:

The First Amendment of the US Constitution states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (a front for rogue atheists) claim a display of a Christian Bible on a table n a VA facility violates this clause.

I disagree. The Establishment Clause was intended to prevent the government from establishing a religion forced on its citizens. By the letter, there is no violation because "Congress" has made no law "respecting an establishment of religion" here. The second part of the clause, let's call that the Freedom of Religion part, is plain and direct; "Free expression" is not ambiguous.

We have a tradition of Judeo/Christian ethics and morals in this country. "In God We Trust" is emblazoned in every federal court room. Tax dollars go to pay the salary of Congressional Chaplains who give an invocation before every session of Congress. If this is not Congress making laws that establish religion, certainly a Bible on a table is not.

Our Pledge of Allegiance states, "And one nation, under God . . . ."

Ours is a country founded by those who fled religious persecution. Nearly all the framers of the Constitution were Christian or deists. We see these beliefs throughout the language our Constitution, which states that we are "Endowed by our Creator," and in the architecture of our federal buildings and monuments.

If the MRFF had their way they would do away with crosses and stars of David and crescents of Christian, Jewish and Muslim American's tombstones and markers in Arlington National Cemetery.

The group's claim that the Bible is offensive is intellectually dishonest. Freedom of expression does not have to take into account personal sensibilities anymore than a billboard does, or commercial on television.

Lastly, in no way does a Bible displayed on a table in a VA facility violate any sensible understanding of the First Amendment. Don't like it, look away, and then freely express yourself somewhere else.
