An interesting article. During my time in Europe I spent 2 weeks in Spain. Barcelona and the Costa del Sol was great, but inland it was terrible. Franco's national police had free rein. I stopped for a night at a small village about mid-way between Madrid and Barcelona. The police walked into the small café I was eating at. They checked everyone's papers, then sat down, ate, and drank a couple of bottles of wine. When done, they got up and started out the door. When the proprietor stopped them and ask for payment, they butt-stroked him with their carbine, kicked him when he feel and walked out.
The citizens in the central part of the nation seemed totally beaten and cowed by the authorities. The church ran everything. Between the national police and the church, the poor citizens did not have a chance.
The writer of this article started out good, but then turned the article to religion and anti-left.

SSG Diane R. - My visit was in June of 1967. Franco was a very cruel dictator.

It is great that through the miracle of YouTube, people can find information about pretty much everything. Those of us interested in military history have a gold mine there. Thanks for the share. I will be watching that documentary over the next few days.
