We should be grateful that the Japanese never really made good use of their submarines. We likely would have lost more ships, more people and possibly had a longer conflict.

It's an interesting title for the article...I'd gotten a paperback on the topic some time back, I can't recall the exact title, I'll try to find it, is read of them many times...there was another story about the sub aircraft carrier they had I'd also seen, I actually found that one equally fascinating....

I think I would consider a couple of Soviet nuclear subs the worst. Poorly designed and badly lead. I think about the nuclear sub that was in the northern waters that required an international effort to raise it to prevent nuclear material from contaminating the oceans.. The salvagers built a giant undersea hack saw to cut of the front of the sub so it could be raised and nuclear material contained. Then there was the Soviet Nuclear nuclear sub that surfaced in the Pacific so crew members could avoid, as I remember, nuclear radiation leakage.
