It would be interesting to compare the statistic that roughly 40% of military service members do not align with either major political, party with previous presidential elections going back to Ross Perot's run SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
As an ORSA I can appreciate the statistical sleight of hand.
I had to chuckle when I read "Approximately 29 percent of Americans now identify as Democrats and 26 percent as Republicans."
Donald Trump brought millions to the Republican side who had not been aligned previously. Similarly Bernie Sanders drew millions of progressiveness who did not ally with the democrats.
It would be interesting to learn how many Bernie Sanders supporters have moved to support Independent candidates.
What is important to understand is
1. how many citizens vote strict party line including how many service members do.
2. what issues are driving voters away from the major parties.
3. what issues are drawing people to the parties.
