"Command Sergeant Major of the Army" is not correct. Could be a civilian obit writer not knowing the difference between an Army CSM and The SMA. The newspaper obit (http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/postgazette/obituary.aspx?n=john-t-oliver&pid=425549) has it as a CSM, USA. As for the awards and badges, the pic is too fuzzy and the Arlington Cemetery link isn't working for me. The fact that Wikipedia never heard of him is odd - someone that decorated will usually have a fan that would have built a page by now, but again, that's not a solid foundation to build on.
I would think the FB group admins know how to file a FOIA to verify any and all claims. And the individual has been buried for 15 years - why is this coming to the surface now?

It has been freshly posted on one of the 82nd FB pages, and a lot of people are going OH WOW!
One of my former platoon leaders (now a retired LTC) started to question it because number one the CSM is wearing a CIB with 2 Stars (indicating third award) which is just not possible given the CSMs period of service.

Agree that 3rd awards are few and far between because of the "one award per era" criteria, and the recipients are generally VERY well-known in their combat arms community. Since he doesn't appear to have been in WWII, there is no way for a 3rd award. Also, there is no such animal as a 'Defense Commendation Medal'. There's a 'Joint Service Commendation Medal', but the listing already includes that. Probably find a whole host of issues once the surface gets scratched. Was it posted by one of his veteran off-spring?

LTC Stephen B. - It was posted by a friend of the daughter that served. She left the service as a LTC. The individual that originally posted this picture sad that the daughter had this photo on her desk. The sad part about it, is that the veteran off-spring probably had a hand in the story.

The CSM is wearing 3 CIBs to begin with. Next he is wearing a POW ribbon and in the bio claims to have been a POW, but is not on any of the Korea or Vietnam POW list.
