Proud to say that I got to watch Pete Maravich play, live and in person, TSgt Joe C.! LSU played at Auburn University, my alma mater, on Saturday, January 11, 1969, and I’m delighted to say that the Auburn Tigers came away victorious, easily defeating Pistol Pete and the LSU Tigers, 90-71!

Probably the best player never to win a championship. He never won at any level, even high school. He retired from the Celtics mid-season in the 1980-81 season and the Celtics went on to win the championship in '81, but because he was officially retired he did not get a ring even then.

He was really something to watch. He died, sadly, from an undiagnosed congenital heart defect....I read recently, that a sports statistician had researched Maravich's pre-3 point shot scoring in the NBA. He charted every shot he took, and came to the conclusion that had the 3 point shot been in effect when he was a player, it would have added ten points per game to his scoring average.
