$44,000 to restore a Jeep? Boy... somebody saw him comin'... did he gold plate it?

Had one like that for more than 20 years and I don't think I spent more than $1,400 on it the whole time I owned it, and $200 of that was for a repaint to protect the sheet metal.

I grew up in the midst of WWII salvage. As a Sea Scout, I sailed the Chesapeake Bay on boats that WWII veterans would well remember. The Navy donated them to our group. Then there was an ad in the newspaper for an auction of Jeeps being sold in lots of 10. As is. No guarantees. However it was likely that you could scavenge enough serviceable parts from the lot to build one functioning Jeep. Sadly I didn't have the $100 minimum bid at the time. One friend did and the last I saw of him was standing amid a pile of parts while his mother berated him for the mess. I wonder if this was his Jeep...

CPT Jack Durish, I had a friend that was a Korean War veteran, and when he got out he bought a jeep surplus; They gave him one running jeep and one wrecked one for parts for some nominal fee that I don't recall. I loved the sound of those jeeps.
