I agree with everything except arming teachers. You realize that we would be training teachers to kill children. That flies in the face of everything a teacher stands for. Once you train them to kill children, how can they ever look at a child they teach the same way. How would they be able to get close to that child without wondering some day they may have to kill that child Instead of arming teacher I think EVERY school district should have dedicated law enforcement stationed inside their schools during times children are there. And heightened security measures like those at airports with the exception of pat downs, NO PAT DOWNS!

How does killing someone that is trying to kill your students fly in the face of what a teacher stands for. Lesson number one "if someone tries to kill you, try to kill them right back." MAL.
I for one am far more understanding of the right to defend your class rather than your inability to do anything but throw a rock and wait....

MAJ (Join to see) - No, the act of killing the shooter itself is not the problem. My problem would be training them to kill a child. Once you train someone to kill, they are never able to look at people the same way again. A teacher is supposed to bond with their students, it's how thy get through to them and teach them. Once you train them, you put in their mind that they may have to kill a child. once you plant that possibility in them. My wife is a teacher, and I know a lot of teachers and we have spoken extensively about this. And all of them agree, even the pro-gun ones. Once you are faced with the real possibility of having to kill your student who you have nurtured all year, you will distance yourself from them, thus weakening that bond. In some cases, it would be like training to kill your own child.

Cpl Tom Surdi - I'm sorry but my 20 years training to kill people in this job has not made me never able to look at people the same way. I'm also a bit disturbed that training implants the possibility as the videos on the news haven't already done that. Teachers have always been assessing potential violent students. Not doing so is called ignorance and being naïve, a teacher who is ignorant cannot correct or prevent problems from occurring. Teachers who believe what you say should not have guns, no one is requiring teachers to be armed they are simply wanting it to be an option for teachers who are qualified to have one. Any suggestions that a teacher cannot do both is just plain unsupportable, the equivalent to saying a cop cannot be a cop because he may have to shoot someone. Cops hope and pray every day that they won't be required to use deadly force but the good ones are always prepared.
In the business of being a Soldier you egregiously failed to learn this simple lesson that it is possible to defend liberty without hating your enemy.

Don't see a problem there.
