I know of her, look at the Wikipedia pages on lady ADA Lovelace, the programmer for Charles Babbage who designed puch cards for looms in the UK in the 19th century and the difference engines, as well as Rosalind Franklin who assisted Watson and Crick with DNA yet never shared in their Nobel. Also, there was Barbara McClintock who waited years for recognition of her study of I think jumping genes in maize corn. Marie Curie was another obvious example, though she was so brilliant that she succeeded despite her gender obviously. You might find her wikipedia page of interest as to the scandal that unfortunately plagued her after the loss of pierre curie, the husband. Then too there was Emmy Noether of Germany in math; there were others I could cite.
