My tanker story. The late Col. Mu Mu Moore! I cannot let this go by without comment. My introduction into the Marine Corps was I was too young to go to Vietnam. Before I had a Postal Clerk MOS THEY SENT ME TO 1ST ANTI Tanks commanded by a Lt Col MU Mu Moore. This was early 1966. 1 ST Anti Tanks had not mounted out for Vietnam yet. Lt Col Moore as I said was the C/O. My job was to empty his office garbage listening to his stories while cleaning it. Mu Mu as his fellow officers called him was a WW 2 Tanker seeing action on most Pacific Islands. He was known throughout the Marine Corps to uncomplicate hard impossible jobs. Give him a task and he did it with grace and without noise, sometimes quietly. He was not tall but built like a tank himself. He commanded Marine Barracks Rota Spain, took 1st Anti Tanks to Vietnam. Came back from Vietnam promoted to Colonel and was regimental commander of the 28th Marines. Bob Hope introduced him as Mu Mu. Anyway for me he was a father figure. He was a Tanker 1st and foremost.
