I met CA MARSOF in Afghanistan who were very professional. They were located just outside PRT Farah, back in 2009, and they did projects in my AO as well. We were invited to eat at their compound along with our FOB Commander and the Command Staff.

Thanks Nicholas Efstathiou for sharing a brief history of MARSOC. While small in numbers I expected that the Confederate States of America Marines might be included in this brief history but it seems to have glossed over the U.S. Civil War period.
I am familiar with the Marine raiders in WWII and have known some modern MARSOC personnel.
