It's a ball cap...AND he is wearing it indoors...and he isn't following the rules...and he is questioning authority. That is not generally the behavior I have come to know from Marines. On the other hand, I'll give the DMV credit for shrugging it off and letting him exercise his right to free expression.

It's not a uniform hat. Were either of you born or ever lived in the South? The only time some men ever take their hats off are for the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, funerals and prayer. The policy for the DMV not allowing head covering is for identification purposes. But if you are going to have a policy that people can state religious reasoning for keeping their heads covered, then you must honor anybody's request for exemption.

I live in the South and you are right, a lot of men have their hats permanantly stuck to their heads. When one of the DMV ladies asks a man to take off his hat, he will almost always say 'Yes ma'am' though. This happened in California, though, so it is entirely believable that the man is in fact a member of a Marine Corps reglious sect.

Nothing wrong with this, I can still see his face clearly...and yes, the Marine Corps is near-religion. It's not rules or regs, it's something that you cannot explain unless you've experienced it. And it does carry on throughout life, even if it's something you don't notice personally, others do. If a guy can wear a turban because of a belief, then there's no reason why this Devil Dog can't wear his service cap. And if someone has a misunderstanding USMC stands for UNITED STATES Marine Corps, he's earned the right to display an American military service on any ID.
