Unfortunately, part of the problem is government workers not doing their job. I have had government jobs at every level (city, state, federal) and everywhere you go, you have a certain number of sorry ass employees. As far as the program itself, I guess there are positives and negatives, but it seems like a good program as some of these people have skills in critical areas and are needed by the military, especially in these times where natural born Americans are unwilling to serve. Not all government employees suck, but many do and the ones that do cause the ones that don't to at least slow down their production. It's natural instinct. If I come in all motivated and going to make a change and be the best public servant I can, but then I see the lack of motivation and professionalism around the workplace, supervisors see it and nothing changes, I am only going to bust my butt so long until I either settle in and become just as bad, or I at least I am not going to do three times the work as everyone else. It seems to be a common theme in government jobs at all levels. I read all the time where people talk about their background check taking so long, and some may take longer than other, but certain aspects of a background check can be completed very quickly and I am amazed at how long the simple parts can take sometimes. Perhaps some of these recruits, depending on where they are from and their individual backgrounds, would require more in depth investigation, but I find it hard to believe that such a huge number would take so long. It's a shame that so many risk losing their opportunity because of the background checks.
