That's exactly why. I have a friend who's a tax person and I saw him trying to explain it to people who were very much against it. Finally I was like dude, you can lead a horse to water... They're not going to understand because they don't want to.

If it is so bad... why have a couple of big companies raised their minimum wage (which the Dems have been lobbying for forever), why have a couple of big companies decided to give out bonuses, and why have a couple of big businesses decided to invest serious ($100M) money back into this country in charity? One really needs to wonder when an entire segment of the media is pushing misinformation. That means they believe you are too stupid to make up your won mind given facts, and you are easily misled. Recent poll found 90+% of Democrats believed fake news. That is sad...

This actually goes to opposing economic theories.
One theory is that the People (individuals) own their own wealth, and the government is entitled to a portion of it (taxation) to accomplish necessary services.
The other is that the Government (representing the collective People) owns all the wealth and distributes what it does not need (to accomplish necessary services) back to the individuals.
Generally speaking, Progressive (regarding economics) philosophy supports the latter while Conservative supports the former.
A great book to read is "Your Teacher said What?!?"
