Yep, pretty gross. Some still practice in the wild tribes of Africa and South America. Other uro methods are also used in wild tribes and even in sivilized more poor cultures who cannot afford medical treatments.

Had a flashback to when I was stationed in Turkey when I saw picture of the privy. That was a Turkish toilet, but perhaps more refined, it had a seat. Often a Turkish toilet was a hole in the center of a concrete slab. Recall asking if they had Turkish or Western toilets when traveling around the country.
Good post and reminder of how good we have it in 2017.
