Some really excellent ideas here although I am not inclined to give the current education system the same degree of credit as does Gunnar Counselman. Control of American education has been centralized in Washington (much as other spheres of control). States and their educational systems now receive a large part (if not the major part) of their funding from Washington and if you want to know who's in control, "follow the money". Inasmuch as the elite in Washington have an ideological bias, indoctrination has replaced education as the prime motive for our schools. Thinking for oneself is verboten. Just ask any student, especially in high school and college, what will happen to them if they espouse an original idea or unpopular thought. Now, if we can close the US Dept of Education and return control to local school boards, I'd be happy to support Counselman's proposals. Until then, little can be done to materially improve the quality of job candidates.
