Good to see local level interaction regarding the current military suicide rates. It is a well needed organization.

Thanks for alerting us to the creation of the Military Relations Council for Topeka Chamber of Commerce by Melissa Jarboe who is the Founder Military Veteran Project COL Mikel J. Burroughs. I hope that many of our friends and contacts in the Kansas area will be able to attend the inaugural gathering of the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce’s new Military Relations Council on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ramada Topeka Downtown Grand Ballroom.

I hope she mentions sobriety. My sister was into drinking and painkillers. She committed suicide,in part, due to those abuses.

So sorry to hear about your sister. Often times, we do not consider the impact of a suicide on others until there is an anniversary, or something that triggers their remembrance and is often associated with sadness, grief, and depression. It does not matter the time that has gone by; it still hurts.

Thanks Rene. I read suicide prevention articles but I seldom see talk of sobriety. Here in Canada we have a seldom discussed white drinking problem but native drunks are pointed out even though they are 3% of the population. Natives have an extremely high alcohol abuse which leads to a high suicide rate. Their problems of absent fathers, broken homes, homeless, poverty, isolation, drug abuse are big factors.
