SCUBA diving around Hawaii, we'd occasionally find vents of fresh spring water under the surface of the ocean. The difference in temperature and density would delay the mixing of the ocean and fresh water, and we could stick our faces into the fresh and drink it. It created refractions and reflections similar to this...

Have been fortunate to have experienced this before as well as a thermocline. Both are pretty awesome to experience when out in the water. Hawaii is on the bucket list.
