I don't think it’s an appropriate tribute to the military as July 4th is not about the military. It’s about our independence. There are 3 other holidays (maybe more) that honor our military:
1. Memorial Day
2. Veterans Day
3. Armed Forces Day

We should be celebrating July 4, not militarizing the day.

Here's a reason why HISTORY needs to be taught in schools... just saying. How the hell can we have 4 of July is no military action was taken? POTUS speech was 100% towards those still serving and served before us. 4 of July IS a tribute to all those who literally fought for the independence and continue to fight for it. We (veterans, NOT on AD) are and will continue to be part of the militia... just sayin

My husband's comment was that much of this could be part of required training flights. The last administration wasted far more funds than this.

Well ya, every flyby I ever participated in was part of a routine training flight. We always conducted other training items before or after the flyby. It had nothing to do with administrations but everything to do with Air Force regulations that prohibited participating in flybys or static displays unless valid training was part of the sortie.

Yes for the pilots, a lot of ground crew time to get the planes ready, but then they do that for airshows all the time. Senior leadership would have been visting bases where it is common to have a fitness run in morning and family picnics, barbecues in afternoon. Wearing dress uniforns on a hot summer day must generate significant dry cleaning bills. Is it a big deal to take all the ribbons off and reattach after?

Why not. If not for the US military we would not be celebrating the 4th of July.
