I conduct extensive research on combat trauma. I offer the underlying causes of suicide. I have conducted psychosocial autopsies and root-cause analyses of suicide deaths just as the VA does on the 6 of 20 who kill themselves. Remember, 14 suicides a day are not being followed by a VAC. The rate among Marines is the highest as they take their oath very seriously and Semper Fi is a lifetime commitment! I can provide copies of my published articles to any who are interested " [login to see] ".

Lots of reasons. Stress, isolation, deployments, etc are contributing factors. The other major one is many active duty troops (and veterans) are dealing with mental health conditions, and often don't get the help they need.

Capt Brian Reese - And as a clinician I believe our persisting "US Incivility War" is a contributing factor. Neither party is prioritizing this impact on our military. I know Vietnam Vets felt rejected and despised when they completed their tours and returned home. Combatants will repeatedly encounter the Dark Beast when facing death so often.
