Thanks for reminding us of a historical figure that many of us are not aware of SGT John " Mac " McConnell. I suppose if I had attended USNA instead of USMA I would be familiar with Master Robert Means Thompson Commander-in-Chief 1927 - 1930 who was part of the USNA class of 1868.
While he did not serve during the civil war, he served this nation for a very long time.
