I'm a bit surprised at this late 80s designed airframe being in demand. Here is a cheaper updated unit.

Make no mistake about it, Japan is making this buy with an eye on China trying to muscle into all those islands in the East China Sea. V-22s represent quite a range and speed upgrade from the helicopters they had been using
