I don't care what sex, race, religion, or national origin your background is. As long as you do what is right and best for your constituents then go for it. We need people with honesty and integrity in offices from the White House on down to the city and county levels. Whether or not you are a woman has no bearing on will I or will I not vote for you...will you do what is best for me and mine and be in line with my beliefs and background. If the answer is yes then Go for it.

I think its great that more women are running. I don't think that the reason women haven't run before has been entirely in their hands, however. I think a lot of women haven't run because of "tradition" within their families, their communities and their organizations. There are still groups out there who think that women should be subservient to men - and they aren't small groups. There are groups who think women should "take care of the home" while the men do the "real work." There are groups who think that women can't handle the pressure of government service. For decades (back when American was "great" apparently) and centuries, women have been told that they couldn't do, shouldn't do it, should do that other thing, and now, finally, we have reached a point where women have opened a crack in that door and are starting to force their way in. Awesome, I look forward to the next elections!

MSgt (Join to see) - I disagree - and I didn't say all women were that way, I said there were a LOT of groups that feel that way and teach that way. And that is supported by a lot of evidence. A lot of women ARE told exactly what I said - maybe not you, so, congrats to you, but a LOT still are.
You say those groups are few and far between, but I disagree. Are things WORSE in other countries? Absolutely. Are things better in some other countries? Absolutely.
I don't think anyone is speaking up for you...

MAJ Bryan Zeski - It is far too often that those attitudes are concealed behind other words, such as those that reminisce about the "good old days" when mothers stayed home and took care of the house and the kids while the father went to work. We see that is discussions about gun violence, crime, poor education, etc.
"You've come a long way, baby," is true, but women still have a way to go yet. But I have faith you will get there.

MSgt (Join to see) - I never said I knew what it was like to be a woman. I said that men have systematically kept women from various positions throughout history - including modern history - in modern nations - for an assortment of reasons that usually go back to a "tradition" or "religious" argument. I don't have to be a woman to recognize that - just like I don't have to be black to see that there has been a systematic oppression of blacks for centuries, and I don't have to be Arab to see the inequalities that they endure as well.
These are not just random ideas about how women, and others, have been treated over the decades and centuries, but are cold, hard facts about how women, historically, have been treated in society.
It's been LESS than 100 years since women could even VOTE in the USA.
Here is just a quick smattering of the things said about women in government:
"Because all government rests ultimately on force, to which women, owing to physical, moral and social reasons, are not capable of contributing."
"Because there is little doubt that the vast majority of women have no desire for the vote."
"Past legislation shows that the interests of women are perfectly safe in the hands of men."
"[Government] has to deal mainly with the administration of a vast Empire, the maintenance of the Army and Navy, and with questions of peace and war, which lie outside the legitimate sphere of woman's influence."
"A girl could study and learn, but she could not do all this and retain uninjured health, and a future secure of neuralgia, uterine disease, hysteria and other derangements of the nervous system."
***
I could go on, but the more I look into it, the more I find it worse than even *I* thought.

Good for the ladies. As long as a persons values share mine, I will vote for them regardless of anything else.
