Leadership failure all the way around. Loader never took his hands off the tube nor his eyes off the camera. Mortar wasn't set up correctly. Damn, if a weapons-dumb signal officer can figure it out... Must have been filming the Columbian version of "Stripes", "El Stripi"

I don't know much about mortars, but I did notice a distinct lack of a base plate!

There's a "base plate" there, just on the little :-) mortars, it's pretty small.

Don't know enough about this weapon to even make a guess, but it DID look like the charge failed. I was wincing waiting for the dang tube to blow up, and then that round just sorta popped out so sadly. I am truly in admiration of the little chubby guy being so light on his feet though. It looked like he was off to a near-Olympic timed start there...
