Members of the US Air Force, 56th Security Police Squadron from Nah Kom Phanom, RTAB, Thailand, that were all killed when their helicopter went down on the rescue attempt of the crew of the USS Mayaguez. They were going to board and rescue the hostages. Also the members of the USAF helicopter crew died in the crash. After that loss the Marines were sent in and also suffered KIA and wounded plus there were two more USAF people KIA and 6 more wounded.

The USAF helicopter itself was assigned to the 21st Special Operations Squadron, the USAF Security Policemen and crew Member all died when that chopper went down. The call sign for that mission of the chopper was knife 13.

These are the USAF Security Policemen that were all killed on the rescue attempt of the USS Mayaguez aboard this helicopter that crashed during that operation. The Marines came in after that point to pick up the mission after the death of the Air Force Members which in addition to these Security Policemen included the helicopter crew. These USAF Security Police shown here were to board the ship and rescue the hostages.
