When I was at Barksdale AFB several times when I was hunting a big Sow ran me up a tree, she had a litter of about 10 or so piglets she was protecting. They usually didn't take long to wander off but if I encountered them I never saw a Deer that day, not sure there was a connection there or not.

Maj John Bell The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has been trying to eradicate them for decades. A healthy sow can have two litters a year with up to twelve little ones at a time. I know they don't allow hunting in the park but it could be a way to cut the population down and at the same time save on manpower.
