MI estimates that Russian troop deaths in Ukraine reach about 4000. That's the first number I've heard. If true, it's going to become harder for Putin to cover up the size of the engagement.

The Kremlin is totally controlling the lines of communication internally in Russia and providing daily broadcasts of propaganda painting Ukraine and the West as the aggressors.

PO2 Marco Monsalve Eventually the news of the deaths will reach their families. But that may take weeks or months and there is no guarantee the population at large will be able to put together all the numbers.

SFC Thomas Foreman I'm sure the overall casualty rate is much higher along with the associated loss of equipment. It would be interesting to compare that to their logistics support to find out what percent of the forces are still combat effective.
Don't get me wrong it's probably still high, like 80+%, but it's an amazing amount of force reduction for them in such a short amount of time. No where near WW II losses, but much higher than the David and Goliath portrayal of the conflict would suggest should have occurred.
