I always enjoyed Ali's boxing and banter, but he made some very poor decisions that really altered the way I felt about the man, TSgt Joe C.. For example, as Cassius Clay, he threw his Olympic gold medal into the Ohio River. Of course, there's draft evasion conviction. Would the SCOTUS have overturned a draft evasion conviction for you or me. I don't think so.

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on April 28, 1967 boxing champion Muhammad Ali refused to be inducted into the U.S. Army and was immediately stripped of his heavyweight title.
Ironically in this day and age, Muslim convert Ali cited religious reasons for his decision to forgo military service.

He did what he did for what he thought was for the good of the country, and he paid a price.
Col. Oliver North had the same ideas but lied to the congress and to the country.
He received a pardon.
