A true romantic at heart --- I still remember my first crush, the Maypole Queen at the on base elementary school at NAS Norman, Oklahoma. I was in second grade and my younger brother was in first. All I remember was vision of blonde curls done up with ribbons dancing around the May Pole. I never learned her name because we left for Hickam AFB in the Territory of Hawaii the next morning. What a wonderful writer you are...and many of your memories are damn near Universal in Nature.There is a growing body of research out there about "First Loves" and "True loves", and what is a normal progression from : "Puppy Love, First Love, True love and First Lover. " As we all know sometimes our First Love, or True Love isn't our first taste of intercourse (pardon the pun) - and many folks wish that their First True Love (after puberty!) had been their first Lover too.
But Religion, Guilt, Shame or a host of other roadblocks (not the least being the worry of having a child that neither really wanted) stopped many a High School Romance being consummated under the watchful eye of a Shotgun while at the Altar. LOL
But those loves last...even if the love itself has faded.
