I am going to be the asshole who asks "How is that gun control working out for you Chicago?"
It is a good thing that they did not call on the National Guard to intervene in Chicago. The violence problem in Chicago is like obesity. It did not happen overnight. It slowly grew to the point where the solution is going to be painful. It has been escalating for so long that finding a starting point is going to be difficult. This problem is going to require community leaders, police, religious leaders, and government to all work together within the community to bring this problem under control. Good Luck with that.

Nothing will ever happen as long as the violence is contained to the approximately 25% of Chicago that is some of the worst conditions in the USA. Each time a CPD Police Superintendent, normally black, tries to take action he is fired or called Racist. As long as most of Chicago and nearby suburbs remain safe, nothing will happen. That opinion is based on my experience living just outside Chicago for a little over a decade.

Did Chicago ever really recover from the 20s. Seems the only thing missing is the machine guns.

Hate to be dramatic, but had they been used and the other usual "patriot" groups came in to "help", this would've been one hell of a blue on blue bloodbath. As much as Chittagong needs help, this was one of the best decisions so far.
