I don't believe one recommendation in this article! You're facing a bear coming at you? Thats what 44 magnums are for. I carry mine on every hunting trip or hike.

Maj Robert Thornton - Yep, a 12 gauge rifled slug is very effective and actually very accurate and capable of some distance. Our Police Department when We qualified three times each year with our Remington 870 We fire 15 shells of 12 gauge .00 buck and 10 rounds of 12 gauge rifled slugs, 25 shots in total.

Indeed, I have Rem 870 combo with slug barrel. I can POUND a pie plate at 100 yards with the iron sights...I'm convinced that, with correct shot placement, it will literally stop a truck. It's too much for shooting deer, assuming you want to eat them, IMHO and experience.

SPC (Join to see) depends on shot placement for deer. I have taken 3 with a 12 gauge slug. Other than stopping them before they could take even one step, almost no meat lost, about the same as nailing one with a 30-06. The ones I took with the 30-06 went between 20-30 yards before they went down.

Just proves that I don't have to be faster than the bear...just faster than my friend...

Maybe Maj. Your friend might be playing possum, thus the bear thinks. 1 down, 1 to go. RU faster than a speeding bear is the question?
