A great void has been created by the lose of this fine warrior, may his spirit ride the winds on the wings of the eagles.

Hollywood and the Media have long portrayed Codetalkers as strictly Navajo. The truth is there were Native American Codetalkers from more than two dozen tribes who trained to perform that dangerous duty in WWII.

To honor the unique contributions of Native Americans to the Union Pacific Railroad, we prepared a special display at the UPRR Museum in Counisl Bluffs, IA, in 2006. We were honored to have three Navajo Codetalkers, who came home from the war and went to work for the railroad, as our guests at this national event. As the then president of the Board of Directors, I was able to spend some private time with those heroes. Shaking their hands and saluting each of them was one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life. Each of them has since passed on and joined their comrades in that great unknown beyond the veil. The Native American Codetalkers, the Nisei of the 442nd, and the Tuskeegee Airmen are just three groups who deserve a lot of extra special accolades from America for what they had to endure just to join the military and possibly die for the country of their birth. Thank God, so many of them survived the war to tell their courageous stories.
