Can't read the whole pay wall article, but surely it is satire. I pushed female recruits in Orlando '79 - '83. McBer Corp was there a year (12 months) measuring women and trying to figure their hand thing when saluting. It seemed intuitively obvious to the most casual observer (and appreciated to this day) that boys n girls are made from different parts.
On the other hand, I suppose it has kept a succession of well compensated consultants gainfully employed these 40 years.

As long as women have served in the Navy, you would think that this type of problem would have been solved long ago!

It reveals a devil-may-care attitude when it comes to females in the military. Women are NOT "equal" to men. Women are DIFFENRENT from men. The goal should never be "equality," it should be FAIRNESS. It's not "fair" to treat men and women the SAME if they are DIFFERENT. Celebrate and exploit the differences to make the military more effective, efficient and LETHAL on the battlefield. That includes uniforms, training, weapons, supplies, fitness, nutrition, etc. Anything else is fooling ourselves and giving an advantage to our enemies.
