I was raised in Bethpage and lived there for close to 20 years, and my father worked at Grumman for a good part of his life. He started there not too long after WWII ended and retired from there some time in the 1980's. I find this very shocking as Grumman was one of the largest employers on Long Island for many years.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel This is great news for my home town, but what I have failed to see under the fog of all this wonderful news, is that without a doubt, Grumman is responsible for this mess, but also without a doubt, I failed to see a single comment about the War effort made of Bethpage Grumman to the Country and in particular the US Navy in WWII. I have little to no doubt, that without Grumman Aircraft for the Navy and Marines in WWII, the war outcome COULD have been much different and we would have had a lot more to be worried about today if we had lost the war! And, post war, they gave jobs to 10's of thousands of WWII GI's on Long Island, who were buying the new GI bill housing that was springing up all over Long Island. My own father being one of them, as a Navy Second Class Gunners mate (5"38 Gun mounts) in WWII!, who worked at Grumman right after the war and stayed with them until he retired! My neighborhood for which I grew up in in the late 40's and into the 50's in Bethpage was 100% WWII GI's. And many of them worked for Grumman or the many industries that cropped up to support Grumman. Just thought the flip side of this coin should be noted.
