Thanks for sharing Capt Seid Waddell. Did not realize that the "Lippisch P.13a" was able to reach Mach 2.6 and that it was fuelled by coal. That made sense in WWII Germany where petroleum fuels were scarce.

LTC Stephen F., a lot of people also don't remember that the Germans were able to make oil from coal during WWII, and that the practice was used again in South Africa when they were under a world-wide embargo due to their apartheid policies.

"Coal-to-oil technology dates back to the 1920s, when two German chemists, Franz Fischer and Hans Tropsch, developed a process to convert coal into a gas and then use it to make synthetic fuels. Coal-to-oil technology helped fuel the Nazi war machine, which lacked access to sufficient crude oil. International oil companies also experimented with the process but put it aside because oil was cheaper."
